Welcome to St. Thomas Church (CNI), New Colony, Nagpur

St. Thomasí Church is one of the oldest churches in the diocese of Nagpur which came into existence under the Chanda Mission of the Scottish Episcopal Church and handed to the Diocese of Nagpur in 1958.

Built in 1918 and consecrated on the 21st December, 1925, this church building has since then been a place of worship for people from different walks of life even as it has served as a historical landmark.

Originally St. Thomasí Church consisted of a Tamil congregation mainly of the soldiers of the Madras Regiment stationed at Kamptee, since 1840.

Canon George Davenport Philips was the founder Priest of the church who saw the foundation of the Saint Thomasís Church, Nagpur which was laid on 18th February 1918 at 5.30 pm by the Bishop of Nagpur Eyre Chatterton.

With the Anglican Church in the northern region of India joining the union of the Church of North India in 1970, this church came under its banner since then although it continued to maintain some of its old traditions of worship pattern and order.

This church has regular worship services in Marathi & Hindi and presently has more than 200 families as its members who belong to different cultures. They come together to worship and testify to Godís faithfulness on Sundays or on weekday mornings/evenings.

Apart from worshipping together, the members share in the life of the church through various fellowships (based on age and interests) and activities and in this way participate in the common witness of the church.

St. Thomas Church (CNI), New Colony, Nagpur would be celebrating its 100th centenary during 2018.
